MANBA DATSANS HAVE MADE GREAT CONTRIBUTIONS TO TRADITIONAL MEDICAL DEVELOPMENT OF MONGOLIA.

Mongolian people has inherited the Mongolian Traditional Medicine with its theory and practice from the era of the Lord Buddha to the present time for 2970 years and developed the medicine as a branch of Buddha by way of establishing the Manba Datsans. This great construction made one big stage in the history of Mongolian Traditional Medicine.

The word “Manba” means a doctor in Tibetan whereas “Datsan” means a religious ceremony, sutra and monastery and training and knowledge center as well.

The Manba Datsans carried out own trainings to prepare the doctors and practitioners like the existing training curriculum. These doctors and practitioners prepared under the 4 directions named Manba Duirava, Manba Gamju, Manramba and Bumravjamba. The root of Manramba word is from Tibetan language nevertheless Mongolian people got used to say it “Maaramba”. As shown the historical study, there were over 250 datsans preparing doctors and practitioners called Manba Duirava, Manba Gavju, and Maaramba but Bumravjamba under the high criteria.

The Maaramba and Bumravjamba doctors were been prepared to train some local doctors selected from provinces. To prepare them, the selected doctors and Maarambas were released from all monastery ceremonies officially and had been trained especially. Although the most Mongolian doctors and practitioners graduated from Maaramba course to get Maaramba degree, most of them couldn’t get the Maaramba degree. As shown by this circumstance, Manba Datsans’ training systems were already been strengthened and were clear how to prepare what doctors and practitioners as well as it had own traditional roles, regimes and curriculums

The Maaramba and Bumravjamba doctors were been trained in province area selected from local doctors. To prepare them, the all doctors were released from the monastery ceremonies and had been prepared especially. Although these Mongolian doctors and practitioners graduated from Maaramba course to get an academic degree, most of them almost couldn’t get the Maaramba degree. As shown by this circumstance, Manba Datsan training system had already been strengthened and was clear how to prepare what doctors and practitioners as well as it had own accuracy rules, curriculum and regime in the historical period.

Doctors and practitioners who worked in the Manba Datsans studied medical books and sutras since they were 5 years old until their old ages so that medical scientific knowledge of Mongolian doctors and practitioners was absolutely remarkable. It has showed evidences in historical documents and books which were written about how the people who were treated by them were frightening their diseases and disorders. On the other hand, there have been many historical papers about Mongolian doctors and practitioners launched the high reputation of Mongolian Traditional Medicine in some other Asian countries.

It can be considered that The Manba Datsans introduced the household health caring and service absolutely throughout Mongolia. The doctors and practitioners used to know the local people with their descent, controlled their health conditions and even, they studied the population’s genetic diseases.  At that time, all doctors and Maarambas not only gave all people the direction and methods how to prevent from diseases but also they believed that Mongolian Traditional Medical theories, practices and treatment were consistent with them.

Therefore, all people used to learn good methods of health lifestyle and cared their own health conditions.

The Traditional Medical practitioners and Maarambas had taught the lifestyle knowledge to the people for many centuries. There could considered that today’s population’s diseases has been growing day by day from the health lifestyle knowledge was been lost within 100 years. As that reason, Traditional Medical doctors, scientists and specialists have emphasized that the government should focus on teaching all people all advantages of traditional medical treatments and therapies and good lifestyles for them today.
